Our infant department is a safe and happy environment for 4 to 7 year olds from Reception to Year 2. Our small class sizes and the value we place on such characteristics as kindness, thoughtfulness towards others along with good manners, enables children to make close friendships and also to develop strong, positive relationships with their teachers. We are a friendly and supportive environment which allows each child to grow in confidence, to be able to express themselves and to be continually challenged. We place emphasis on providing a thorough grounding in literacy and numeracy.
Reading and writing is developed earlier, as the children build on a sound knowledge of phonics learnt in Pre-school. As in our Pre-school, children in the Infants continue to read individually to a member of staff each day.
Early numeric skills are taught through a balanced programme of active play in addition to formal written work. This is complimented by a wide range of other subjects in the weekly timetable, including Information and Technology (ICT) and specialist teaching in French and Music.
